 PART 2 - ARTICLES
 ARTICLES
I. A / AN 
 - Mạo từ khơng xác định A, AN dùng với DT số ít đếm được, cĩ nghĩa là “một”.
 -A được dùng trước từ bắt đầu bằng 1 phụ âm (a car, a pen,).
 - An được dùng trước từ bắt đầu bằng 1 nguyên âm (an apple, an orange, an egg, an umbrella, an 
 idol).
 Note: a university, a uniform, a house
 an unhappy day, an hour, an honest man
 A /An thường được dùng trong các trường hợp sau:
1. DT chưa xác định và cĩ nghĩa chung chung.
 Ex: There was a car outside the garden.
 I saw a man in the park. He had a small dog.
2. Danh từ số ít đếm được với nghĩa “một”.
 Ex : - She has got a daughter and a son.
 - I bought a dictionary and a book yesterday.
3. DT chỉ nghề nghiệp.
 Ex: My father is a teacher. His father is an engineer.
4. Trong các cụm từ chỉ số lượng, đo lường (a few, a little, a pair of scissors, a kilo of oranges, a bottle of 
 wine, a glass of water, a cup of tea, a dozen of eggs,)
5. Trong cấu trúc câu cảm thán với What :
 Ex : - What a pity !
 - What a nice smile she has got !
II. THE: 
 Mạo từ xác định THE dùng với DT số ít khơng đếm được hoặc đếm được, số ít hoặc số nhiều.
 Ex: the student, the people, the girls, the milk,
 THE được dùng trong các trường hợp sau:
1. Khi người nghe biết chúng ta đề cập đến người hoặc vật nào (thường cĩ mệnh đề quan hệ bổ nghĩa)
 Ex: - The woman who phoned didn't leave a message. 
 - Can you tell me more about the jobs (which/that) you've done.
2. Khi người hoặc vật đã được đề cập trước đĩ (được nhắc đến lần thứ 2).
 Ex: I’ve bought a new mobile phone. It’s great. The phone connects to the internet. 
3. Danh từ được xác định bởi một cụm giới từ ( The + N + preposition + the +N)
 Ex: The gate of the house, the corner of this room, .
4. Trước DT chỉ người hoặc vật duy nhất (the sun, the moon, the sky, the ground, the earth, the 
 universe, the globe, the world, the King, the Queen ...)
 Ex: The sun rises in the east.
5. DT chỉ các loại nhạc cụ (the guitar, the piano,...)
 - I can’t play the piano, but I can play the saxophone.
6. THE + ADJ → N chỉ người (the Dutch, the Chinese, the Spanish, the blind, the deaf, the poor, the rich, 
 the injured, the disabled, the homeless, the old, the young, the unemployeD...)
 Ex : - The rich should help the poor and the disableD.
 - The Smiths are going to visit us this weekenD.
7. THE cịn được dùng trong cấu trúc so sánh nhất và so sánh kép (the best thing, the fastest runner, the 
 most expensive hotel, the last, the first, the seconD...)
 Ex: He is the most generous person in the group.
 The older we get, the happier we have.
8. DT chỉ phương hướng (the east, the west, the south, the north, the Middle East, the Far East...)
