PART 10 – REPORTED SPEECH I. KINDS OF REPORTED SPEECH (các loại câu tường thuật) 1. Statements (câu kể) Direct Speech Reported Speech “S + V + O” S + said (that) + S + V +O S + told + O (that)+ S + V + O Note: Trong câu kể:-dùng said (that) khi câu trực tiếp (trong ngoặc kép) không có túc từ - dùng told + O (that) khi câu trực tiếp (trong ngoặc kép) có túc từ you, Daisy, Tom, Ex: Tom said, “I want to visit my friends this weekend.” Tom said (that) he wanted to visit his friends that weekend. 2. Questions (câu hỏi) a. Yes – No question Direct Speech Reported Speech “Do/ Does/ Did + S?” S + asked + O + if / whether + S + V “Is/ Are/ Was/ Were + S?” wondered “Will/ can+ S?” wanted to know không cần túc từ “Have/ Has + S?” Note:Trong tường thuật câu hỏi, whether hay đi chung với or (not) Ex: “Did you go to Hue three years ago?” Tam asked Peter Tam asked Peter if he had gone to Hue three years before b. Wh-questions Direct Speech Reported Speech “What/ Where + V + S?” S + asked + O + what/ where + S + V wondered /wanted to know Ex: “Where does your father work?” The teacher asked me The teacher asked me where my father worked. 3. Imparetive (câu mệnh lệnh) Direct Speech Reported Speech “V0 + O” S + asked, told + O + to V “Don’t + V0 + O” S + asked, told + O + not to V Ex: a. “Help me with my homework, please” Minh said to his sister. Minh told his sister to help him with his homework. b. “Don’t open this book now.” The teacher said. The teacher asked me not to open that book then. PART 10 – REPORTED SPEECH 25.
