 DO YOU KNOW? 
 WHAT TO AVOID DURING TET 
 • Tet is a wonderful and important festival in Vietnam for family to gather together after a year of
 working. There is something you shouldn’t do during Tet. 
 • In case you had funerals in your family last year, you must pay attention to not visiting other
 person’s house for the first 3 days on the Lunar New Year. 
 • According to the traditional Vietnamese’s concept, black and white or dark clothes remind of
 funerals. These colors are not accepted on Lunar New Year Holidays. People prefer red color for 
 this festival. 
 • Try to avoid negative topics including accidents, deaths or funerals on Tet holidays. Put on a
 smile for at least the first 3 days of the year.

 NEW YEAR IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES 
United Kingdom 
United Kingdom welcomes the New Year with loud cheer, feasts and warmth of family and friends. In 
London, a huge crowd gathers along the Thames to enjoy the fireworks from the London Eye as the Big 
Ben strikes twelve officially marking the onset of a New Year. They also have a traditional custom called 
“First Footing”. For this, a tall, handsome dark-haired male has to be the first visitor of a household after 
midnight. He is considered to bring good luck and prosperity to the host. 
Denmark 
People in Denmark believe that if they stand on a chair and jump from it as the clock strikes twelve to 
welcome New Year, It would bring them luck. Another tradition is to collect dishes all the year around 
and throw them at the front door on the New Year’s Eve - the more the broken plates, the more friends 
one shall have in the New Year. 
Brazil 
Apart from hosting some of the best beach-style parties, New Year in Brazil is welcomed with some 
traditional rituals. On New Year’s Eve, the Copa Cabana beach in Rio de Janeiro is lit up with candles. 
Huge crowd gathers in the bridge and people throw offerings into the sea.
